Dr. J.D. Stuart, M.D.

Hi, my name is Dr. J.D. Stuart. While I look forward to meeting you in person to answer any questions that you might have about plastic surgery, the following serves as a bit of background information on myself.

I am board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and have a practice focused exclusively on cosmetic plastic surgery. I have a fully certified surgery center where we do all of our cases with anesthesia, either general or local, with sedation provided by board-certified anesthesiologists. I do a full range of cosmetic surgery, in particular facelifts, eyes, breast augmentation, reduction, and lifting, body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasties (tummy tuck), thighplasties, and brachioplasties (arm lifts) as well as liposuction and laser resurfacing. I have been in practice in Tucson for 25 years and given the “small town” nature of Tucson, I would certainly invite you to inquire about my reputation in town with your friends, family, or hair salon.

I first came to Tucson for medical school, where I graduated first in my class. I subsequently did general surgery also at the University of Arizona before moving on to the University of Virginia where I did a plastic surgical residency as well as fellowships in craniofacial surgery, burn surgery, and hand and microvascular surgery. I returned to Tucson in 1989 and have been in practice since that time.

When I first went into practice, I did a fairly broad range of plastic surgery, including being director of the Burn Unit at St. Mary’s as well as a variety of reconstructive plastic surgery in addition to a cosmetic practice. I have also been associated with the Children’s Rehabilitative Services Clinic for approximately 20 years. My practice now is virtually completely of a cosmetic nature ranging from facelifts and eyes to breast augmentation, lifting, and reduction to body contouring surgeries such as liposuction and abdominoplasty. It is often said that one does not necessarily choose the nature of their practice, but rather the practice chooses them. As such, my cosmetic practice has largely grown out of satisfaction and referrals from prior patients.

Outside of my surgical practice, my main interest has been and continues to be my wife and family. Kathy and I have been married 36 years and we have been blessed with four wonderful children. For 18 years, I was involved in coaching three out of our four children in soccer and actually won several state championships with the two boys’ teams (though the girl’s team was even more fun!). Over the years, as the kids have moved on to their own careers and families, including 4 awesome grandsons, I have been involved in other passions such as automobile racing, all around handyman and now grandfathering.

I feel very blessed to be able to wake up each day, come in, and do something that I have wanted to do since I was a child of 5. I also feel very blessed that I get to work with some very excellent people who we have here in the office. Dr. Reinke and I have been friends and associates for 24 years. He retired in 2016 and I am very happy to now have Dr. James Rough here in the office. He is an incredibly well trained and skilled surgeon who cares for his patients and our employees as much as I do. My office manager Eileen has been with me the full 27 years I have been in practice. My nurse, Michelle, has been with me for 10 years and is definitely indispensable in helping me take care of my patients, and she replaced a nurse who retired from our office after 20 years. I very much enjoy being a plastic surgeon, and I feel very fortunate to be part of helping people feel better about themselves and their appearance.
